Boeing 747 Windscreen vs BMW M8 Competition Convertible Price Comparison.

When comparing the cost of a windscreen, the disparity between different types of vehicles becomes evident. Let’s look at the price of a windscreen for a Boeing 747 and a brand-new BMW M8 Competition Convertible.

The Boeing 747 windscreen is no ordinary piece of glass. Unlike the cabin windows, flight deck windscreens are constructed using a combination of materials. They consist of glass-faced acrylic with an outer glass layer bonded to stretched acrylic. Sandwiched between these layers is a layer of urethane, which adds to its structural integrity.

For a Boeing 747-400, which costs between $228 million and $260 million, the price of a cockpit windscreen is comparable to that of a brand-new BMW car. Specifically, it ranges from $35,000 to $40,000. It’s imperative to note that the 747 windscreen features two layers of tempered glass and an additional inner layer, further contributing to its durability.

On the other hand, let’s consider the cost of a brand-new BMW M8 Competition Convertible. According to TrueCar, prices for the latest BMW M8 Competition range from $138,795 to $176,535. The luxurious convertible is known for its high-performance capabilities and stylish design.

To put these costs into perspective, the average price of the Boeing 747 family is worth mentioning. The latest model, the 747-8, has an average price tag of $418.4 million.

The freight variant, the 747-8F, costs slightly more at $419.2 million. It’s interesting to note that as of October 2022, several airlines, including Air China, Korean Air, and Lufthansa, operate the 747-8 for passenger and cargo transportation.

Comparing the cost of a windscreen for a Boeing 747 and a brand new BMW M8 Competition Convertible reveals a significant contrast. While the 747 windscreen commands a price comparable to a BMW car, the overall costs of these vehicles are vastly different.

Each represents an exceptional and specialised engineering feat, catering to different needs and industries.
