Uganda Air to Commence Direct Flights Between Lagos and Entebbe

Uganda Air to Commence Direct Flights Between Lagos and Entebbe

Uganda Airlines has recently announced the launch of direct flight operations between Entebbe International Airport and Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos. This move marks a significant milestone as it facilitates seamless travel between Nigeria and Uganda.

Simplifying Travel for Passengers

Travellers seeking to journey from Nigeria to Uganda or other East African destinations have previously relied on airlines such as Kenya Airways and South African Airways. However, with the introduction of Uganda Air on this route, passengers can now enjoy increased options and potentially reduced airfares.

Cutting Travel Time

The commencement of non-stop flights between these two countries significantly reduces the time it takes to travel. Previously, the journey from Nigeria to Entebbe required up to 12 hours with connecting flights. With the new direct route, this travel time is dramatically shortened to just four hours.

Ease of Exploration and Connectivity

Mr. Adedayo Olawuyi, Chief Commercial Officer (COO) of Uganda Airlines, emphasised the importance of Nigeria’s robust economy and large population in facilitating seamless connectivity for passengers. With Nigeria serving as a prominent destination for various purposes, the decision to introduce direct flights was a strategic one aimed at enhancing travel convenience.

Enhanced Accessibility for Trade and Tourism

Notably, the establishment of the Entebbe-Lagos route is poised to unlock significant opportunities for trade, tourism, and interpersonal visits between the two nations. The new service is anticipated to foster closer ties and bolster bilateral relations.

Impact of Airfare Fluctuations

Amidst the recent fluctuations in Nigeria’s local currency, the naira, airfares have experienced a sharp increase. For instance, the cost of a round-trip ticket from Lagos to Nairobi using other airlines amounts to approximately $500. Due to currency depreciation, this translates to a higher cost for Nigerian travellers, highlighting the value of competitive airfare offerings.

In conclusion, Uganda Air’s decision to establish direct flight operations between Lagos and Entebbe signifies a significant step towards enhancing travel accessibility and fostering closer ties between Nigeria and Uganda. This development is expected to positively impact both business and leisure travellers, facilitating seamless travel experiences and fostering economic growth.
