Newcastle Airport Named Best in the World with 30 New Flight Routes

A small UK airport has clinched the coveted title of the best airport globally, launching 30 new flight routes and making waves in the aviation industry.

Remarkable Achievement for a Small UK Airport

Despite not being a central European transport hub, Newcastle Airport has triumphed over numerous global contenders to secure the prestigious ‘Airport of the Year’ award in the under 5 million passenger category at the Routes World Conference in Turkey.

Recognizing Excellence and Dedication

Director of Aviation Development Leon McQuaid expressed his gratitude, acknowledging the collective effort of the airport’s teams and airline partners. “We are absolutely delighted to have won this prestigious Routes World award. A big thank you to all of our airline partners for nominating us, which is great recognition for all of our teams’ dedication and hard work to deliver for our airlines.”

Surpassing International Competitors

Newcastle Airport’s victory over four renowned international airports, including Billund Airport, GMR Goa International Airport, Salzburg Airport, and Tulsa International Airport, solidifies its position as the best in the league.

Recognition for Exceptional Services

Airlines worldwide have applauded the airport for its remarkable airline engagement, operational efficiency, and effective marketing strategies that enhance travel trade exposure.

Expansion and Success

The airport’s recent expansion initiatives have contributed significantly to its success, welcoming four new airlines, six additional based aircraft, and twelve fresh destinations.

Connecting Passengers to New Horizons

The introduction of thirty new routes in the past year has opened up exciting travel opportunities for passengers, enabling them to explore destinations like Egypt, the UAE, Norway, and Cape Verde.

Commitment to Outstanding Service

Nick Jones, the Chief Executive, highlighted the dedication of the airport’s workforce in achieving this remarkable feat. “This achievement is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our employees across the airport and demonstrates our commitment to providing the best customer service to our passengers and business partners. All of which allow us to win prestigious awards such as this.”

Recognizing Excellence in the Industry

The Routes World Conference provides a platform for airlines to nominate airports based on their performance over the preceding year. A panel of airline judges then independently evaluates the submissions to determine the winners.

Positive Impact on the Local Economy

South Tyneside Council leader Tracey Dixon emphasized the significance of Newcastle Airport in the region. “It provides a key gateway to the region and generates millions of pounds for the local economy, as well as attracting inbound tourism.”

Acknowledging Commitment to Excellence

Head of Airports at InfraBridge Graeme Ferguson commended the airport’s exceptional service on a global stage. “As a shareholder, we’ve always focused on making Newcastle one of the best regional airports in the UK, and this recognition has highlighted the exceptional service the airport provides its airline partners on a global stage.”
