The History of Air Taxi Vanuatu

Air Taxi Vanuatu

Air Taxi Vanuatu, a part of the Pacific Air Services Group, began its journey in 2004 when two pilots, Wayne Allport and Simon Turner, initiated their seaplane airline.

Initially known as Vanuatu Seaplanes, the company provided scenic flights and volcano tours. In 2009, they transitioned to operating wheeled aircraft, and in 2010, Air Taxi Vanuatu expanded its fleet to meet increased demand, now offering various services such as charters, air tours, medevac, scenic flights, aerial surveys, photography, and skydiving.

The Early Beginnings

The history of Air Taxi Vanuatu traces back to 2004, when two ambitious pilots, Wayne Allport and Simon Turner, embarked on the journey to establish their own seaplane airline. Their pioneering venture took flight with the purchase of a Maule seaplane, which they ferried an impressive 1,300 nautical miles from New Zealand to Port Vila in Vanuatu. Operating under the name Vanuatu Seaplanes, the company initially specialized in providing scenic flights and captivating volcano tours, treating tourists to the mesmerizing sights of the region.

Transition and Expansion

In 2009, the company shifted its focus and operations, selling its seaplane business to acquire a Cessna 206 with a five-passenger seat capacity. This strategic move marked a significant shift towards meeting the growing demand for volcano tours to Tanna. To further bolster its capabilities, Air Taxi Vanuatu procured a larger Cessna 207 in December 2010, accommodating six to seven passengers. This acquisition laid the groundwork for the company’s subsequent expansion.

Current Operations

By April 2016, Air Taxi Vanuatu had evolved into a formidable force, boasting a fleet of seven aircraft. Its operations extended beyond charter services to encompass medevac missions, scenic flights, aerial surveys, photography, and adrenaline-inducing skydiving adventures, spanning across the breathtaking islands of Vanuatu and beyond in the South Pacific.

The Air Taxi Team

Air Taxi prides itself on its cohesive and dedicated team, ensuring safe and enjoyable flights across the enchanting islands of Vanuatu. Focused on maintaining flight safety standards set by the Civil Aviation Authority Vanuatu (CAAV), the team goes the extra mile to train its pilots to surpass these stringent requirements. With their aircraft being owned and maintained within the country by certified engineers, passengers can rest assured they are in capable hands throughout their journey.
