A cursory comparison of flight ticket prices between Lagos and London on Turkish Airlines and Cotonou to London on the same airline revealed a staggering difference. While a one-way economy class ticket from Lagos to London costs $1,636 (N1,313,708), the same ticket from Cotonou to London only costs $472 (N379,000). This price disparity raised eyebrows and fueled public outrage, prompting people to question the fairness of airline pricing strategies.

Government Taxation and Its Impact

One of the primary reasons cited by some social media users for inflated ticket fares is the high Nigerian government tax on international flights. According to some claims, more than half of the ticket price is directed towards taxes, making air travel considerably more expensive for Nigerians. Corruption and Bureaucratic Hurdles
